Ukrainian police detained three former separatists of the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic

On the 15th of January, Ukrainian police in the Donetsk region reported that they have detained three former separatists of the Donetsk People’s Republic. One of them is a 45-year-old resident of the Kostiantynivka region, who was fighting in an industrial area in Avdiivka.

This man joined the Donetsk People’s Republic in November 2014 in Donetsk. He was first instructed to guard the Vostok battalion’s base, but shortly after he was deployed to Avdiivka. The man received a concussion during one of the fights. After treatment in the hospital, the man decided that he didn’t want to fight anymore. He lived in Donetsk for several months and then returned to Kostiantynivka where he found employment with a local company.

The man was detained by officers of the local police department and will now be brought to justice, the police stated. Another former separatist was found in Novoluhanske, which was recently withdrawn from the grey zone. The 24-year-old local resident joined separatists in June 2014.

He was stationed at a checkpoint located near Luhanske in the Bakhmut region, where he conducted inspections of cars and citizens. Two weeks later, he saw separatists beat innocent civilians and left the Donetsk People’s Republic.

The third detainee has the same biography. He is a 27-year-old resident of Liman, who was on duty at the checkpoint at the crossroads of the Krasnyi Lyman Seversky-Yampil-Kryva Luka highways. Criminal proceedings with preliminary qualification under part 2, Article 260 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (creation of armed units or groups unforeseen by legislation) were initiated on all cases. The detainees are facing eight years imprisonment if found guilty.
