The President of the International Olympic Committee announced new sanctions against Russia
In his New Year’s address, the President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, announced new sanctions against Russia. Bach also presented the measures that will be taken on the basis of the results of McLaren’s report on the use of doping in the Russian Federation. The President of the IOC called this report shocking.
According to him, two specially created Commissions, which will give all parties the right to express their positions, will prepare a response of the International Olympic Committee. “After that, the International Olympic Committee will take corresponding measures and impose sanctions,” Bach promised. Richard McLaren’s work would be continued and expanded because initially he had no power to check all samples of Russian athletes, Bach said.
Bach stated that now, all 254 samples of Russian athletes collected at the Olympic Games in Sochi and also all samples of Russian athletes who participated in the 2012 Olympic Games in London, will be repeatedly checked.
According to the second part of McLaren’s report on the use of doping in Russia, more than one thousand Russian sportsmen and sportswomen in 30 sports were involved in manipulations with positive doping samples.
