The President of Transnistria said the breakaway region will not change its Russia-oriented course
The President of the unrecognized Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, Vadim Krasnoselsky rejected the proposal of the Prime Minister of Moldova, Pavel Filip to begin discussion on granting special status to Transnistria within Moldova.
Krasnoselsky stated this after the meeting with Austria’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and acting OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Sebastian Kurz. Krasnoselsky stressed that political issues on granting special status to the region within Moldova are not currently relevant.
“I would repeat what I have already said more than once. Our independence is a guarantee of our security. Currently, political issues aren’t relevant because we have a wide range of problems that have to be addressed first. The people voted in favor of the independence of Transnistria with further reunification with Russia in a referendum that took place in 2006. Certainly, I’m not going to change this course,” Krasnoselsky said.
At the same time, the President of Transnistria supported continuing the negotiation process in the 5+2 format. According to him, the issues of railway connection, communications and telecommunications among others should be resolved within this format. In turn, Foreign Minister Kurz stated that his visit to Moldova shows that the resolution of the Transnistrian conflict is in the list of priorities for the OSCE.
