The SBU is still unable to confirm that Voronenkov’s murderer is an FSB agent
Ukrainian special services cannot yet give a clear answer as to whether Pavel Parshov was an agent of the FSB. Pashov is the main suspect in the murder of the former deputy of the State Duma, Denis Voronenkov. Russia has opened a criminal case for his assassination, which took place in Kiev.
"In the case of Parshov, whether he really was an agent of the FSB or not hasn’t been proven. We are still working on it. There is no such information. We read all of this on Facebook and other publications," said the head of the National Defense Department State Security Service, Viktor Kononenko at a briefing in Kiev on Wednesday, March 29.
The idea that Pavel Parshov was an agent of the Russian special services, embedded into the power structures of Ukraine, was circulated on March 24 by Anton Gerashchenko, a people’s deputy of the Verkhovna Rada from the Popular Front faction. He argued that Parshov received special training in a Russian school for saboteurs. Responding to the question about what Gerashchenko’s statement is based on, Kononenko said, "I think you need to ask Anton Gerashchenko about that."
Meanwhile, in Russia a criminal case on the murder of Denis Voronenkov in Kiev has been opened, RIA Novosti reports with reference to a source close to the investigation. The case, according to the source, is being investigated by Denis Zherenov, who has also been engaged in the criminal case against Voronenkov on fraud. Voronenkov’s lawyer Andrey Grivtsov said that he was not informed of the initiation of a criminal investigation for murder.
