Transdniestria accuses Moldova of 'psychological pressure'
Leaders of the unrecognized republic of Transnistria (Pridnestrovie) are outraged by the actions of Moldovan authorities regarding the arrest of the Republic’s officials. They also accuse Chisinau of "psychological pressure" and threaten to "complicate the dialogue" on resolving the Transnistrian problem, as reported by Newsmaker.
The statement of the Foreign Ministry of the "Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic" (PMR) was published after the "Minister of Industry and Regional Development of the PMR," Nikolai Gliga, was detained on January 28 in Chisinau.
"Such destructive approaches to the members of the PMR government, who cross the border of the Republic of Moldova (RM) in the Chisinau airport, have become a routine matter," the news agency reported, quoting the message of the "Foreign Ministry of Pridnestrovie."
"It is noteworthy that the unilateral actions of the Moldovan authorities have no objective basis and are politically motivated. It leaves no doubt that the measures taken to restrict the freedom of travel for members of the PMR government are aimed solely at delivering moral and psychological pressure upon members of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic’s management," the statement of the Ministry reads.
The Transnistrian Foreign Ministry also warns about the possible consequences of stabilizing relations between Transdniestria and Moldova.
"The process of building a meaningful dialogue in the spirit of mutual respect is impossible without Moldova abandoning the pressure on Transnistria in all areas, including freedom of movement," the PMR noted.
Earlier it was reported that the pro-Russian president of Moldova, Igor Dodon, promised to hold a referendum on the status of the unrecognized Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic.
