U.S. reconnaissance aircraft flew near Russia's bases in Syria

On Sunday, a U.S. P-8A Poseidon reconnaissance plane flew over Russia’s military bases in Syria, Interfax reported.

According to data on websites that track aircraft movement, the P-8A with tail number 168859 flew along the Syrian coast at least four times, presumably monitoring Russia’s Khmeimim Air Base and Tartus naval facility.

The aircraft also flew over the Mediterranean Sea to the south of Cyprus over the location of Russia’s naval flotilla.

U.S. reconnaissance aircraft have increased their activity in the Mediterranean Sea over the last month.
