Ukraine fenced itself off from Russia with hundreds of kilometers of ditches
On November 10, the press center of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported that more than 250 kilometers of anti-tank ditches were excavated in Ukraine on the border with the Russian Federation over the past two years. Last year, UAH 400 million (USD 15.6 million) was allocated to equip the border with Russia in the Chernihiv and Kharkiv regions.
In addition to the anti-tank ditches, 40 kilometers of control-surveillance line, more than 110 kilometers of lateral road and 75 kilometers of protective fence were built with the allocated funds. Observation towers were also installed and four Triton mobile combat modules were purchased. Strongholds for staff and protective constructions for passengers at checkpoints were also equipped.
The border guard officers plan to complete work in the Kharkiv region by the end of 2016 and then start work in the Luhansk region. The budget provides for the allocation of UAH 200 million (USD 7.9 million) for this purpose. UAH 120 million are already in the account of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. Earlier, the border guard officers reported the failure of the wall project.
