Ukrainian court to consider lawsuit over Russian aggression

The Supreme Specialized Court of Ukraine has opened proceedings on the issue of establishing the fact of Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine. The proceeding was opened on the application of the Director of the Open Court project, Stanislav Batryn, Zn.ua reported.

According to the edition, the Court has evoked the case from the Shevchenkivskiy District Court of Kyiv, where the case was initially reviewed. Batryn first filed his claim two years ago. The Ukrainian activist stated that he gathered 1,000 facts allegedly confirming the attack of the Russian Armed Forces against Ukraine.

However, on the 12th of May 2016, the Shevchenkivskiy District Court of Kyiv refused to grant his requests. The judge explained it that Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine by itself has no effect on the rights of the claimant; it is simply a matter of common knowledge.

The Kyiv Court of Appeals refused to revoke the decision and after that Batryn appealed to the higher court. Stanislav Batryn called the decision of District Court political and called on Ukrainian society to consolidate over this issue.
