Ukrainian MP Leshchenko: The West has extended sanctions against Russia but Ukraine hasn't
Sanctions imposed by Ukraine against Russia, its citizens and companies, have not been in force for a month, stated member of Ukrainian parliament Serhiy Leshchenko.
“On September 16, 2015, sanctions were imposed for a year by the decree of President Poroshenko. On September 16, 2016, the sanctions expired. And there has been no decree to continue the sanctions from Poroshenko for a month. The United States, Canada and the EU maintain sanctions against Russia, but not Ukraine,” he wrote on social media.
According to sources close to the parliamentarian, the refusal to prolong sanctions is related to corruption and agreements under which Russian citizens can, “for a certain amount of money take themselves off of the sanction list or add their competitor to the list. And as long as ‘sanction holidays’ last, they can buy assets that are subject to sanctions cheaply,” concluded the MP.
Sanctions imposed by Kyiv against Russia affected about 400 individuals and more than 100 legal entities.
