US, EU and Canada urged Ukraine to conduct independent verification of e-declarations
The United States, the European Union, and Canada welcome the steps taken by Ukraine towards anti-corruption reforms and call for further reforms, in particular, for an independent and reliable verification of electronic declarations, as was said in a joint statement by the Embassy of Canada, the United States of America, and the representative of the European Union on the occasion of International Anti-Corruption Day.
“We welcome the impressive steps made after the Revolution of Dignity, including the adoption of amendments to the Constitution concerning judicial and anti-corruption legislation, the establishment of specialized anti-corruption bodies, as well as the successful introduction of an electronic system by which property can be declared,” the statement read.
At the same time the Embassies called for the "preservation and enhancement of this positive trend in 2017," and in the future. "We strongly call for an independent and reliable verification of the submitted electronic declarations," the statement read.
The diplomat also expressed hope for the proper functioning of the anti-corruption bodies in Ukraine. "We also call on the Ukrainian authorities to complete the process of forming a new department to return assets seized as a result of corruption and other crimes, so that the organization can start operating in early 2017 and move to the fulfillment of their mission-critical goals," the statement notes.
