Yatsenyuk: Poroshenko should form a new government if he is not satisfied with the current cabinet
In an interview with Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Ukrainian Prime Minister Aresniy Yatsenyuk stated if President Petro Poroshenko is dissatisfied with the current cabinet, he should form a new government.
“If he is no longer satisfied with my work, he will need to form a new government,” Yatsenyuk said referring to Poroshenko. He also noted that forming a new cabinet may lead to early elections.
“I have never criticized the President’s party. For me, it is more important to preserve our unity than to increase my popularity,” Yatsenyuk said, adding that the President of Ukraine “remains my partner”.
The Presidential Administration has not yet commented on these statements.
Previously, the leader of the Petro Poroshenko Block faction, Yuriy Lutsenko, said that the old coalition had collapsed and that faction leaders “should start negotiating the creation of a new coalition for the new government” next week.
After the government’s report on the 16th of February, the Verkhovna Rada failed to adopt a vote of no-confidence for the cabinet, despite recognizing that the work of the government was unsatisfactory in 2015. Poroshenko had previously said that the timing for a partial renewal of the Cabinet of Ministers has passed, and the government requires a complete overhaul.
