Killer of lawyer Nozdrovska arrested in Ukraine
Law enforcement officers arrested a person suspected of murdering lawyer Iryna Nozdrovska. This was reported by Artem Shevchenko, director of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry’s communication department.
“A person has been arrested who is objectively suspected of committing the crime,” Shevchenko said.
As reported by the Interior Ministry’s press service, law enforcement authorities identified and questioned all six drivers of the route buses in the interval between 17:00 and 18:00, who were moving along the route in question. Police conducted apartment and house patrols, questioning more than a thousand residents of Demydiv.
“Using this entire data set which we acquired – the technical capabilities, questioning the drivers and identified persons who were moving from the Heroes of the Dnieper metro to Demydiv, we completely reconstructed the picture between 17:00 and 18:00. And so today a decision was made by investigators – the suspect was arrested under article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code,” Vyacheslav Abroskin reported.
He added that investigative measures are currently underway, as well as the necessary searches to identify possible evidence and eyewitnesses who may have been traveling with Irina Nozdrovska. In this way the law enforcement agencies may obtain an additional evidence base on this case.
“The work continues, the first investigative measures with the suspect are currently being carried out,” observed the first deputy chief of the National Police.
Ayder Muzhdabaev, deputy CEO of the TV channel ATR, reported earlier that according to his information, Nozdrovska’s killer “was a close relative of the criminal who drove over her sister in a car, and then was given a criminal sentence due to Irina’s persistence”.
Human rights activist Iryna Nozdrovska disappeared on the route from Kyiv to Demydiv in the Vyshhorod region on December 29.
Nozdrovska had filed a case on the high-profile traffic accident in which her sister was killed. She managed to have Dmitry Rossoshansky, a nephew of the regional judge, put behind bars for fatally driving over her sister.
Nozdrovska later repeatedly threatened relatives and friends of the driver. On January 1, she was found dead on a riverbank.
Law enforcement authorities are considering four main theories in the investigation of Nozdrovska’s murder.
