Poroshenko and May discuss strengthening sanctions against Russia
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and British Prime Minister Theresa May recently discussed strengthening sanctions against Russia following the construction of a bridge across the Kerch Strait in annexed Crimea, a Ukrainian press service reports.
“The Ukrainian President emphasized the necessity of strengthening international pressure on Russia in order to fully implement the Minsk agreements,” the statement reads. “The parties stressed the importance of continuing and strengthening sanctions against Russia, especially because of the building of an illegal Kerch bridge in the occupied Crimean peninsula.”
This information was released following a telephone conversation between Poroshenko and May. The leaders additionally discussed mobilization of the international community to oppose Russia’s aggressive policy during preparations for the G7 summit, which will be held from June 8 to June 9 in Canada. The G7 summit will include the USA, Canada, Britain, Germany, France, Italy and Japan.
Poroshenko and May expressed full support for evidence concluding that the Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 crash was proof of Russian aggression.
May and Poroshenko additionally discussed the importance of strengthening international pressure on the Russian Federation in light of a liberation issue including Ukrainian hostages and political prisoners.
The interlocutors discussed methods to expand bilateral cooperation in security and defense. Poroshenko expressed gratitude to Britain for supporting Ukraine’s effort to reform.
Recently, Poroshenko held a telephone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Poroshenko thanked Erdoğan for defending the rights of the Crimean Tatars.
