Poroshenko: conflict between Ukrainian law enforcement bodies reminds me of the Latin American Carnival
President Petro Poroshenko has said that inter-departmental conflicts, quarrels and intrigues are unacceptable, the presidential press service reports.
"In speaking about the work of the entire law enforcement system, I cannot, unfortunately, ignore public interagency conflicts. I will say again, unfortunately, they have gone beyond reasonable competition, which – to a certain extent - is still needed everywhere, because competition, including between law enforcement agencies, is the engine of progress," he said.
Poroshenko claimed it is impossible that even one law enforcement body is involved in political activities.
"Conflicts, quarrels, intrigues and enmity are absolutely unacceptable, since they only benefit the common enemies of crime and corruption," he said.
Poroshenko emphasized the scandalousness of the situation that has arisen.
"There is so much noise and feathers that sometimes the action resembles some Latin American carnaval ... It would even seem funny, if it were not so sad. It is sad, but correctly written in the appeal of the Group on December 1: "It is impossible to build a rule-of-law state if the men in uniform forget the purpose for which they came into office and become irresponsible politicians," the president added.
On November 29, SBU officers detained a National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) agent in an attempt to transfer a bribe of $15,000 to Dina Pimakhova, First Deputy Head of the State Migration Service.
Afterwards, NABU accused the General Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) of illegally disrupting the special operation and of sabotage.
The First Deputy Head of the State Migration Service, Dina Pimakhova, also shared her version of events at a briefing, where she spoke about how the detective offered her a bribe.
According to the Prosecutor General, the first case is "corruption", while the second is "provocation".
