Ukrainian President: Russia's Gazprom will pay its debt down to the last penny
During the first meeting of the National Investment Council, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said he is confident that Ukraine will manage to get payments from the Russian company Gazprom granted by the decision of the Stockholm Arbitration Court.
"Now Gazprom does not pay us, but so that you have no doubts: every last penny [that Ukraine will receive from Gazprom] will go to the state budget," Poroshenko said.
In February 2018, the Stockholm Arbitration Court obliged Gazprom to pay the Ukrainian company $4.63 billion dollars for the transportation of 110 billion cubic meters of gas per year envisaged by the transit contract. In December 2017, Stockholm arbitration court awarded Gazprom $2 billion in a dispute between the companies under a contract for gas supplies in 2009. Thus, Naftogaz was to receive 2.56 billion dollars in total from the Russian monopoly.
The Arbitration Court also ordered Gazprom to transport 110 billion cubic meters of gas a year through Ukraine until the end of the transit agreement in 2019, or else pay for the shortfall.
Russia did not agree with this decision and has filed a complaint with the Svea Court of Appeal in Sweden.
