President Poroshenko: Javelin anti-tank missile systems are expected to arrive in Ukraine soon
During a cabinet meeting of the National Security and Defense Council held to discuss the recently approved bill: On Specifics of the State Policy to Ensure State Sovereignty of Ukraine Over the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Donetsk and Luhansk Regions (Donbas), the President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko spoke about the forthcoming weapons supply from the US.
“We have positive news as we can see a long-awaited defense weapon coming soon,” Poroshenko said at the meeting and promised to reveal details during the closed part of the meeting.
In December 2017, US President Donald Trump approved the decision to provide lethal weapons to Ukraine, particularly Javelin anti-tank portable missile systems. On February 17, in Munich, Poroshenko held talks with US Secretary of Defense James Mattis, which, according to the President’s own words, left him thrilled.
In early February, Ukrainian Minister of Defense Stepan Poltorak went on a business trip to the United States where he stated that Ukraine had implemented 90% of the US requirements for military aid promised in the amount of USD 350 million.
