President of Ukraine will pay an official visit to Portugal for the first time since 2008
The President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko will pay an official visit to Portugal on December 17-18.
The press service of the head of state has informed that he will meet with the President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the Prime Minister of Portugal Antonio Costa, and the Chairman of the Assembly of Portugal, Eduardo Ferrero Rodrigues. A number of bilateral documents are expected to be signed that will contribute to the intensification of cooperation between Ukraine and Portugal in various fields.
Poroshenko will also meet with the Ukrainian community living in Portugal.
This is the first official visit of the President of Ukraine to Portugal since 2008. At that time, Viktor Yushchenko flew to Lisbon and was accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Volodymyr Ohryzko, the Minister of Defense, Yuriy Yekhanurov, the Minister of Education and Science, Ivan Vakarchuk, and the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Vasyl Vovkun.
Poroshenko met with the Prime Minister of Portugal, Antonio Costa, in the spring of 2016 as part of the World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul. In the summer of 2017, he hosted the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Portugal, Augusto Santos Silva, in Kyiv.
More than 37,000 Ukrainians live in Portugal.
