Putin and Macron discuss the situation in Syria
The French president Emmanuel Macron and Russian president Vladimir Putin had a phone conversation on Saturday, July 21, according to the Kremlin’s press office. In the conversation, they discussed “a series of current international and regional issues,” with special attention paid to the question of Syria.
In particular, Putin and Macron discussed the humanitarian crisis in Syria, and the implementation of “a joint Russian-French initiative to provide aid for the population of Eastern Ghouta.”
“Over the course of the talks that took place in Moscow on July 15th, Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron discussed a series of current international and regional issues. Special attention was paid to the humanitarian aspects of the Syrian reconciliation, especially the implementation of the joint Russian-French initiative to provide aid for the population of Eastern Ghouta,” the Kremlin said in a statement.
The supervisors of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) have repeatedly put forth statistics on the death toll resulting from the bombing of innocent civilians in Eastern Ghouta in the Syrian province of Idlib.
The government of the Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad has claimed that specific location is a military base for ISIL. For their part, the Russian military has supported the armed forces of Assad’s government in Syria. According to data from SOHR, the bombings are being carried out with the help of the Russian Air Force.
Additionally, according to data from international organizations, the European Union and the UN, these bombings by the combined forces of Russia and Assad have predominantly resulted in the deaths of innocent civilians.
