Russia closes navigation in the Barents and Kara Seas ahead of test firing of ballistic missiles

The Russian Navy will conduct test launches of ballistic missiles from the Barents Sea and the northwestern Pacific Ocean, as indicated in the statement published on the website of Russian Ministry of Defense warned seafarers.

According to the Navigational Warnings system (PRIP), some areas in the Barents and Kara Seas are closed to ships due to "rocket launches" until October 30. This includes the waters of the Chosha Bay near the eastern coast of the Kanin peninsula, the areas around the Novaya Zemlya archipelago and to the north of the Murmansk region, the statement says.

The launches will be made from Russian strategic nuclear submarines in the Barents Sea, aimed at the testing area at the Kamchatka peninsula from the west and from the submarines of the Pacific Fleet at the training site on the Kanin peninsula from the east.

Last June, the Ministry of Defense conducted a test of the Bulava missile in the Barents Sea. It flew 5,000 km to find its target at the Kura test site on the Kamchatka peninsula.
