Russia promises to respond to US sanctions
Moscow will have a "harsh response," to the US sanctions, as stated by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"There is no pressure that could force Russia to withdraw from the chosen course. They [the sanctions] only demonstrate the inability of the United States to achieve its goals and are bringing the Russian society closer together. Of course, we will not leave current and any new anti-Russian attack without a harsh response. However, first of all, we would like to advise Washington to get rid of illusions that it can talk with us via the language of sanctions," the Foreign Ministry said.
The Russian ministry believes that, using sanctions, the US "distinguished themselves as opponents of a market economy and a free, fair competition."
On April 6, the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions against 24 Russians, including seven Russian oligarchs, 12 companies under their control and 17 senior Russian officials.
Among those against who were placed on the sanctions list are businessmen Oleg Deripaska and Igor Rotenberg, Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller, Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev.
