Russian Defense Minister visits Syria to deliver Putin’s message to al-Assad
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that on Tuesday, March 19, Russian Defense Minister, Sergey Shoygu, paid an official visit to Syria, reports TASS.
According to his representatives, the head of the Russian military department held talks with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus where he gave him a message from Putin. The ministry did not disclose the content of the message, only noting that during the negotiations Shoygu and al-Assad discussed "issues of combating international terrorism in Syria", as well as "various aspects of ensuring security in the Middle East region and post-conflict settlement."
In particular, the Russian minister said that "Western countries are trying to minimize any positive changes in Syria and create new obstacles for ending the crisis."
To prevent western countries from implementing their policies in the Syrian Idlib and the Eastern Euphrates region, both parties decided to continue working together to develop appropriate solutions and restore security in these two regions, reports the Syrian News Agency (SANA).
During the meeting, al-Assad noted that "Russian-Syrian cooperation remains at a high level in all areas" and is "a decisive factor in Syria’s resilience in the face of terrorism."
