Russian frigate Admiral Gorshkov passes through the English Channel
Russian frigate Admiral Gorshkov and its accompanying ships have entered the English Channel, TASS reports, citing the press service of the Russian Northern Fleet.
The frigate is accompanied by the multifunctional logistics support vessel Elbrus, the rescue tug Nikolai Chiker and Kama sea tanker. Before leaving the North Sea, the frigate and ships underwent communication practice and coordinated the procedures of passing through narrow channels. The squad is wrapping up a long journey from the Russian port of Severomorsk that began on February 26. This is the first such voyage for the warship.
On March 3, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that Admiral Gorshkov conducted several naval combat exercises, including the search for submarines using a Ka-27PL anti-submarine warfare helicopter. These exercises were conducted in the waters of the Norwegian Sea where all the tasks were successfully completed. During the exercises, several helicopter take-offs and landings on the deck were carried out.
Frigate Admiral Gorshkov is the first ship of Gorshkov-class series of warships. Its construction began in 2006 and it entered the service within the Russian Navy in July 2018. The ship became part of the 43rd Missile Division of the ships of the Northern Fleet.
