Russian strategic bombers carry out air strikes in Syrian province of Deir ez-Zor
Six Tu-22M3 long-range strategic bombers flew from their bases in Russia and carried out air strikes at the targets in the Syrian province of Deir ez-Zor, as reported by the Russian Ministry of Defense. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, strikes were carried out against ISIS facilities near the town of Abu Kamal.
"Six Tu-22M3 long-range strategic bombers that have taken off from the Russian territory, have flown over Iran and Iraq and delivered air strikes against terrorists’ facilities near the town of Abu Kamal in the province of Deir ez-Zor," the Russian Ministry of Defense stated.
"The air strike targeted militants’ strongholds and arms and ammunition depots," Russia’s Defense Ministry said.
The Ministry stated that all the operation was successful and “all the enemy targets were destroyed”
Earlier, the US-Led coalition stated that Abu Kamal, the town situated on the Syrian border with Iraq is the next target of the Inherent Resolve operation.
This is where the stronghold of the Islamic State is now located, stated the spokesperson for the operation Inherent Resolve, Colonel Ryan Dillon.
"We have to consolidate the gains that the Syrian Democratic Forces have made down to the Omar oil fields [in Deir ez-Zor] and continue to back clear areas that are still ISIS held territory… and then prepare for an offensive in Abu Kamal, where we believe the bulk of the ISIS leadership remains right now," Dillon said.
