Six Russian athletes disqualified from international competitions
Russian biathlete Ekaterina Glazyrina received a penalty from the International Biathlon Union and will no longer allowed to participate in official competitions, the Union’s press-service reported.
Following the discovery of a prohibited substance in the 31-year-old’s blood, Glazyrina was disqualified from the Union for two years. Additionally, the biathlete was stripped of all scores, prizes and medals received from December 2013 to the present. At the end of 2014, she finished second in a race in Hochfilzen, but this result will now be annulled.
On February 10, 2017, Glazyrina was temporarily disqualified from competitions following a report by Richard McLaren on doping in Russian sport.
It was also reported that five other Russian athletes have been disqualified by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
The IAAF accused five Russian race walkers of participating in a training camp led by coach Viktor Chegin, who was disqualified in 2016 for repeated doping violations committed by his trainees.
As part of the disqualification, the Authorized Neutral Athlete status previously granted to all five race walkers was revoked. All five of the following athletes are not allowed to participate in the World Race Walking Cup, which is held in China: Klavdiya Afanasyeva, Olga Eliseeva, Yuliya Lipanova, Sergey Sharypov and Sergey Shirobokov.
Following the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea, the International Olympic Committee restored Russia’s membership, which had been suspended due to a doping scandal.
