Putin approves new Russian government
Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has named the members of Russia’s new government. Medvedev presented the new Cabinet of Ministers at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Putin accepted all proposals made by Medvedev, the website of the Russian president reports.
Medvedev proposed appointing Anton Siluanov as First Deputy Prime Minister, who, in his opinion, should also take on the role of the Minister of Finance.
Among other candidates for the posts of vice premiers are Tatyana Golikova (Healthcare, Education and Social Policy), Yuri Trutnev (Far East), Olga Golodets (Culture and Sport), Vitaly Mutko (Construction), Dmitry Kozak (Industry and Energy), Yuri Borisov (Defense Industry), Alexey Gordeyev (Agriculture), Maxim Akimov (Transport and Communications) and Konstantin Chuychenko (Head of the Government Apparatus).
President Vladimir Putin agreed to appoint Sergei Lavrov to the role of Foreign Minister, Sergey Shoygu as the Minister of Defense, Vladimir Medinsky as the Culture Minister, Denis Manturov as the Trade and Industry Minister, and Maxim Oreshkin as the head of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation. Alexander Novak will remain the Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation.
The social sector of the Russian government will remain practically unchanged. Veronika Skvortsova will retain the position of Head of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, Maxim Topilin will remain the Minister of Labor, and Pavel Kolobkov will keep his role of the Minister of Sports.
The Prime Minister proposed to appoint Olga Vasilyev as the Minister of Education. The new Ministry of Science will be headed by Mikhail Kotyukov, who until now headed the Federal Agency of Scientific Organizations.
Konstantin Noskov will be the Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation. Previously, the Ministry of Communications and Mass Communications was transformed into the Ministry of Digital Development, Communication and Mass Communications.
Dmitry Patrushev, who is the Chairman of the Rosselkhozbank and the son of the Head of the Security Council of Russia (former FSB director Nikolai Patrushev) will become the Minister of Agriculture. Yevgeny Dietrich will head the Ministry of Transport.
First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov, who has worked in the government for more than 13 years, lost his post. Additionally, Deputy Prime Ministers Arkady Dvorkovich, Dmitry Rogozin, Sergei Prikhodko and Alexander Khloponin lost their posts, as well.
The forming of the new government began on May 7, the day of Putin’s inauguration after he was elected for a fourth term in office. Putin proposed the candidacy of Medvedev as Prime Minister.
