To cover the debt of his Crimean plant, Ukrainian fugitive oligarch Firtash will hand over recreational resort to Crimean authorities
Volna recreational resort that belongs to Ukrainian fugitive oligarch Dmytro Firtash will become the property of the Kremlin-controlled authorities of the Crimea in exchange for writing off the debt of the Crimean Titan plant owned by businessman, RBC news agency reports citing its sources.
Volna is located on the Bakalska sandbar of the peninsula, where a youth forum Tavrida is held, which is overseen by the internal political block of the Kremlin. The recreational resort is rented by the authorities at the time of the forum, and this year the rent amounted to about 30 million rubles ($512,000 USD). The authorities of the Crimea intend to organize a year-round youth camp on the territory of this base, RBC news agency notes.
It was reported that the transfer of the base to the Crimean government’s ownership will allow to settle the debts of the Crimean Titan plant, to which this territory belongs.
"A source close to the management of the Crimean Titan, confirmed to RBC that the scheme, under which Volna becomes the property of the Crimea in order to settle debts to the budget, is being discussed," the article says.
A source close to the "government" of the Crimea also informed the publication that "Volna" could be transferred to one of the local state-owned enterprises.
In the meantime, Firtash's spokeswoman Victoria Ilyinskaya told RBC that she does not comment on the information about the Crimean assets of the businessman, since this topic is "politicized".
Earlier it was reported that Ukrainian state-owned Khersonoblenergo stopped electricity supplies to the Crimean plant of Firtash. The company suspended the power supply to Firtash’s plant following the statement of People's Deputy Mustafa Dzhemilev about the supply of electricity from the territory of mainland Ukraine to the Crimean Titan plant in the annexed Crimea.
