Ukraine deploys air assault troops to Russian border
The air assault units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are being redeployed to the most dangerous directions of the Ukrainian-Russian border, as stated by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko during a working visit to the Zhytomyr region. Poroshenko's statement has been published by the press-service of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC).
The NSDC noted that the President and the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov visited one of the military units where airborne troops and equipment of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were loaded into aircraft for redeployment as provisioned by the state of martial law.
On November 26, Volodymyr Yelchenko, Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations stated that the obvious threat of invasion of Ukraine and its cities Berdyansk and Mariupol comes from Russia. President Poroshenko declared martial law in ten Ukrainian border regions from November 26 to December 26 of this year.
On November 27, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Pavlo Klimkin stated that Russia planned to seize Ukrainian territory from Mariupol to Transnistria, further dismembering Ukraine. On December 3, Poroshenko stated that along the border with Ukraine the number of the Russian troops increased dramatically, which prompted his subsequent order to mobilize air assault units.
