Ukrainian farmers will receive new trade preferences from the EU beginning October 1

Expanded trade preferences of the European Union for Ukraine will enter into force on October 1, said Mykola Tochytskyi, Representative of Ukraine to the European Union, on Facebook.

According to Tochytskyi, on Wednesday, September 13, during the plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg (France), the President of the Parliament and the Estonian President of EU Regulation signed an agreement on the granting of additional EU trade preferences to Ukraine for a period of three years.

"The signing concludes almost a year of persistent efforts by our European partners to provide Ukraine with additional preferences for a number of important Ukrainian agrarian and industrial export goods. It is expected that this legislative act of the EU will be effective from October 1 of this year, " Tochytskyi wrote.

Separate additional preferences for agricultural products, he said, will be available to Ukrainian producers from January 1, 2018.

On July 17, the EU Council approved the expansion of trade preferences for Ukraine, which include additional import quotas at zero tariff for some agricultural products: honey (2,500 tons), processed tomatoes (3,000 tons), grape juice (500 tons), wheat (65,000 tons), corn (625,000 tons), cereals and granules of some cereals (by 7,800 tons), oats (4,000 tons), and barley (325,000 tons ).

In addition, the solution involves the complete removal of import duties on several industrial products, such as fertilizers, dyes, pigments and other coloring materials, footwear, copper, and aluminum, as well as equipment for television and sound recording.

The EU is Ukraine's largest trading partner, while Ukraine occupies only 0.8% of the EU's trade market.
