Zone near Syrian coast recognized as dangerous for civil aviation flights

The zone over the Mediterranean sea area off the Syrian coast has been labeled “dangerous” for civil aviation flights due to British military activity. Warnings were sent to European and Russian air carriers operating flights in the area, Interfax reported, citing a source familiar with the situation.

"A restricted zone has been declared from April 12 to May 12 for civil aviation flights,” noted the source, “in connection with the activity of the British military over the Mediterranean Sea in the air traffic region of Nicosia near the Syrian coast.”

The source also noted that the restrictions apply to flight levels up to an altitude of 8,000 meters.

It was reported that over 500 people suffered from the chemical attack in Syria. According to the testimony of a Syrian aid group, at least 60 people were killed and more than a thousand injured on Saturday in the alleged chemical attack on the city of Douma. Doctors and witnesses noted that the victims had symptoms of poisoning, perhaps from a nerve agent, and reported the smell of chlorine gas.

U.S. President Donald Trump and Western allies are discussing possible military actions against Syrian President Bashar Assad. His regime is suspected of the chemical attack.

Trump warned Russia to prepare for missile strikes in Syria, but later he said that he did not promise to strike Syria right away.
