American company sends the first shipment of coal to Ukraine
The US mining company, XCoal Energy and Resources sent Ukraine the first shipment of anthracite coal with a total volume of 85,000 tons, as reported by the Ukrainian ambassador to the US, Valeriy Chaly, during a live broadcast on the Embassy’s Facebook page.
Today is a very important day, because today, we have the first batch of anthracite coal from the US, which came from Pennsylvania and ships here in Baltimore, Maryland ... This is an important start of the agreements which have been reached by the President, Petro Poroshenko, during his visit to the United States," he said.
The Ambassador emphasized that the supply of coal from the United States helps guarantee Ukraine's energy security.
According to Chaly, the cost of subsequent shipments can be revised and reduced. The first batch of American coal should arrive in Odessa in about three weeks, according to the Voice of America.
It was reported earlier that a contract was signed regarding the purchase of US Grade A Anthracite coal, which is not produced in the controlled territories of Ukraine. PJSC Centrenergo signed the contract with XCOAL Energy & Resources to provide 700,000 tons of anthracite before the end of 2017.
The American coal provided under this contract is planned to be used by the Trypilska thermal power plant (TPP), which will allow it to resume its work and to maintain a steady production of energy through the autumn-winter period of 2017-2018.
According to the media, the price of American anthracite is $133 per ton, which significantly exceeds the import price of other US companies, as indicated by Tsensor.net.
