Breedlove: NATO contingent in Estonia should not be made up of only US soldiers
NATO's Supreme Allied Commander, General Philip Breedlove, stated that the preliminary deployment of NATO troops in Estonia should be international and not consist of only soldiers from the United States Forces.
“The work to ensure that NATO will be able to respond to threats from the east and south is in progress. The plan on strengthening NATO’s presence in the Baltic States will be adopted at the NATO Summit in July,” Breedlove stated in his interview to the journalists on Tuesday in Tallinn.
According to him, the need of this is caused by Russian large-scale military exercises and also hostilities in eastern Ukraine. At the same time, he noted that he didn’t see the need to create permanent NATO bases in the Baltics.
