Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada: Ukraine's accession to NATO must be defined by law

Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy wrote on his Facebook page that Ukraine’s accession to NATO should be put in its legislation.

"After visiting the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Tbilisi this week and following the results of a very fruitful communication with our allies and partners from the North Atlantic alliance, it was decided that Ukraine's membership in NATO as a priority of the state foreign policy should be determined at the legislative level," Parubiy said.

According to him, Bill Number 6470 has already been registered in the Verkhovna Rada, which proposes making appropriate amendments to the law "On the Basics of Domestic and Foreign Policy" and the law "On the Fundamentals of National Security of Ukraine."

Parubiy also noted that the adoption of such a law would be an important sign for Ukraine's allies.

Parubiy’s statement comes on the heels of President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko’s approval of the annual national program of cooperation between Ukraine and NATO.
