Head of Ukrainian Mission to NATO: the matter of Ukraine will have primary status at Alliance meeting
The topics of Ukraine and Russian aggression will be “everywhere” at a special meeting of the head of states and governments of NATO member-states in Brussels, although the official program of the “mini-summit” does not contain announcements about separate consultations on this topic, said Yehor Bozhok, acting head of the Ukrainian Mission to NATO in Brussels.
“Ukraine will be everywhere at this event: everything which will be spoken about there will be in connection with the fact that in 2014 Russia attacked Ukraine. This is why the Alliance has returned to the policy of defense and deterrent, to the construction of an advanced presence on the eastern flank,” Bozhok stated.
The Ukrainian diplomat added that defense and deterrent are key elements on NATO’s agenda.
“Tomorrow, transatlantic unity will be confirmed, the policy of defense and deterrent, increasing defense expenditure, increasing efforts in the war against terrorism – all of this due to the fact that in 2014, Russia showed the world its true face as an aggressor,” the acting head of the Ukrainian mission to NATO added.
Taking into account the fact that, due to the limited one-day program, the meeting in Brussels is not a full NATO summit in its format, not a single event with representatives of Ukraine or other countries at the headquarters has been considered.
At the unofficial NATO summit which is taking place on Thursday in Brussels, the primary topics will be the fight against global terrorism and the fair investment of each member in the area of security and defense of its countries, said Jens Stoltenberg, head of this political military organization.
He also added that at the summit there may be discussion of Russia’s non-compliance with the Minsk agreements, and the separatists supported by it in Eastern Ukraine.
