NATO to provide State Security of Ukraine with cybersecurity equipment
By the end of spring, the State Security of Ukraine will receive special assistance from NATO in the form of special equipment to counter cyber threats.
This was stated by Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges at NATO Headquarters Jamie Shea in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
“We are already at the stage of arranging for the delivery of this equipment to Ukraine. We still have to go through some of the usual formalities of import/export procedures, but we hope we can get everything done quickly. Our goal is to have everything installed, tested, and up and running by summer,” he said.
Shea mentioned the work of the Ukraine- NATO Cyber Defence Trust Fund.
“There is a corresponding NATO trust fund headed by Romania, but many countries are donors to this fund. We spent over 300,000 euros to help the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as to help Ukrainian special services in training personnel and improving equipment to better detect and fend off cyber attacks,” he said.
NATO has provided Ukraine with about 35 million euros worth of assistance from six different trust funds that were created in 2015, said NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg the day before.
