Russian Foreign Ministry: Assumptions that aircraft carrier will be involved in attacks on Aleppo are 'absurd'
The Russian Foreign Ministry said that NATO’s assumptions that the Russian aircraft carrier group will take part in military operations in Aleppo are “absurd.” Andrei Kelin, Deputy Director of European Cooperation Department, told RIA Novosti that Russian aircraft have not approached a Syrian town for “the ninth day.”
Secretary General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg earlier expressed concern that the deployment of the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea may lead to increased attacks in Aleppo.
It became known on Wednesday that NATO countries criticized Spain’s decision to allow a group of Russian warships to enter for refueling in the port of Ceuta. The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that they had submitted a request to refuel.
The Admiral Kuznetsov is the only aircraft carrier in Russia that can carry dozens of aircraft. The ship is supported by the Pyotr Velikiy (Peter the Great) nuclear missile cruiser, two anti-submarine ships and four support ships. According to official information, the ships’ purpose for entering the Mediterranean Sea was “ensuring naval presence in operationally important areas of the world oceans.”
