A report on the threat of Russian propaganda will be presented in the European Parliament in September

In September, the European Parliament will present a report about threats from Russian propaganda aimed against countries of the European Union. The former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland and member of the European Parliament, Anna Fotyga, made the announcement during her interview with Ukrinform.

“This report was prepared by my office; the discussion is ongoing within the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament, of which I am a member. The vote on this document will take place in September at the plenary session of the European Parliament,” Fotyga stated. According to her, this report will show the extent to which the EU and the eastern and southern Member States of the Community are the targets of Russian propaganda.

“We will try to bring the positions of different countries closer to each other in this document,” Fotyga noted. She explained that the report will be based on the sources of EU, NATO, Member States of the Community, the European Endowment for Democracy and fund organizations that operate in Ukraine. Fotyga stressed the significance of Ukraine’s role in the fight against Russian propaganda in Europe.

“The fact that the issue of war in cyberspace was raised to an extremely high level in NATO is also the result of Ukraine’s actions and also cooperation with civil society as well as the work of the NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence (NATO Stratcom COE) that deals with propaganda.”

Fotyga also said that the world learned that Russia has long been prepared for the aggression against neighboring countries due to the report of Stratcom COE about Russian propaganda. “There are experts who claim that Russia has been preparing for the aggression against Ukraine for more than ten years. This large propaganda war continued even during relatively quiet phases of the Russian-Ukrainian relationships.”
