The United States Embassy will finance the training of Ukraine's anti-corruption special forces

The Ukrainian community is awaiting the results of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU). The U.S. Ambassador is ready to allocate money for this purpose.

The Department on Law Enforcement Issues of the U.S Embassy in Ukraine will finance the joint exercises of the officers of the U.S.A.’s Special Rapid Response Unit (SWAT) along with the employees of the Special Operative Department of NABU.

“I’m very pleased that the U.S Government, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and our British and German colleagues will help NABU in its formation and development. Your work is extremely important for Ukraine. The community is awaiting the results. We are ready to provide further support to your work in order to achieve this result,” the United States Ambassador to Ukraine, Geoffrey Pyatt, stated during a meeting with the Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine, Artem Sytnyk.

Sytnyk and Pyatt have discussed the status of the implementation of the bilateral agreement between NABU and the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, the representatives of which will conduct trainings for the employees of the Bureau and also help during investigations. In addition, the Director of NABU told the U.S. Ambassador about the plans to create a criminal lab to work with electronic devices and data carriers.

The British partners have promised to supply equipment for this lab in the near future. Pyatt noted that the employees of the Federal Bureau of Investigation have unique expert knowledge in decoding and data recovery. The U.S. Ambassador also stated his readiness to provide further support to the Bureau on the implementation of the latest technologies in investigations.

In February 2016, the Department for Data Processing and Analysis of NABU, supported by the U.S. Embassy, received equipment from the FBI that converts paper records of criminal cases into an electronic format and analyzes it as well.

In March 2016, Sytnyk commented on information by ZN.UA that the Vice President of the United States, Joe Biden, has twice insisted during talks with the President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, on the need for NABU to ensure technical abilities, separate from the SSU, to carry out wiretaps.

He also reported that NABU currently cooperates with the FBI. “If we ask them about something, they can involve the financial intelligence system in the process,” the Director of NABU stated.
