Ukraine and NATO agree to cooperate in the sphere of special operations
NATO and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have signed a letter of intent to cooperate in the sphere of special operations. This was reported by the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Viktor Murzenko. The Head of the delegation of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the Commander of the Special Operations Forces of NATO, Marshall Webb, and Murzenko signed the letter in Kiev.
Earlier this month, the Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, said that the Alliance has adapted to new security challenges. This is not only in reference to the strengthening of the eastern border, but also with regard to the support of partners, particularly Ukraine.
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has made changes to two laws, abandoning the non-aligned status of the state in December 2014. The new military doctrine provides for the restoration of the policy of rapprochement with NATO. Ukraine has until 2020 to ensure full compatibility of its Armed Forces with the Forces of Countries and Members of NATO.
