US allocates $54 million to Ukraine for reforms
The US has allocated $54 million for additional assistance to Ukraine, according to Voice of America.
It was reported that the intergovernmental agreement was signed by the First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Stepan Kubiv and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director Susan Fritz. The funds will be used to carry out reforms in Ukraine.
“In accord with this agreement, Ukraine will receive an additional $54 million to carry out critical reforms. The money will be used to fight corruption as well as facilitate economic transformation and the development of democracy. I am convinced that this additional assistance will bring the Ukrainian people one step closer to the prosperity of democracy which they strive for and deserve,” said the US ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch.
Kubiv added that the money will be allocated to three areas: energy, compliance with the law, and “most important, the accountability of the Ukrainian government to its citizens.”
As was reported earlier, the US House of Representatives approved a bill which stipulated $150 million for military aid to Ukraine.
