US House approves sending lethal weapons to Ukraine
The US House of Representatives has unanimously approved supplying lethal defensive weapons systems to Ukraine. This was stated in the House bill named ‘On the support of stability and democracy in Ukraine’, which had previously been supported by the Foreign Affairs Committee. This was reported on the website of the lower chamber of the US Congress.
The Embassy of Ukraine in the US reported that the document was initiated by the Co-Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives, Eliot Engel. It was submitted by Engel and Republican Congressman, Adam Kinzinger. It also secures the preservation of US sanctions against Russia until the timely, complete and proven fulfillment of the Minsk Agreements.
The statement, released on Thursday on the Ukrainian Embassy’s Facebook page, says that the list, which was provided by the law in cooperation with allies and partners of the US, means that the provision of lethal defensive weapons systems become part of providing support to Ukraine.
Some provisions of the bill are aimed at strengthening the countering actions against Russian informational propaganda, as well offering assistance in attracting foreign investments into the Ukrainian economy. This was reported by the Embassy of Ukraine.
The co-authors of the document include 40 Congressmen from the Democratic and Republican parties.
Prior to its signing by the US President, a bill should be supported by the Senate.
