US urges Ukraine to speed up reforms
According to a joint statement made by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Volodymyr Groysman, and US Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker, the pace of reforms in Ukraine needs to be sped up to ensure a smooth handover of affairs to the future US presidential administration.
This statement was made after the talks between Ukrainian and US authorities on trade cooperation. The American presidential delegation was headed by Pritzker.
“Both sides agreed on the importance of accelerating the momentum of reforms to ensure a smooth transition of a working relationship to the future American administration,” the statement says.
“During the meetings between [Ukrainian] President Poroshenko, members of the government and the Verkhovna Rada, all participants confirmed a strong desire to cooperate in the promotion of economic reforms. The United States will remain a full and committed partner in this effort. This is part of the Obama administration’s support for an independent, democratic and prosperous Ukraine,” the report says.
