PACE representative preparing resolution on Nemtsov murder case denied entry to Russia
Lithuanian politician Emanuelis Zingeris, who was supposed to prepare a resolution of the Council of Europe on the investigation of the murder of Boris Nemtsov was denied entry to Russi, Deutsche Welle reports. The politician planned a trip to Moscow to collect materials for the preparation of the resolution.
"Perhaps the ban is related to my work in the Council of Europe and my investigation into the circumstances surrounding the murder of Boris Nemtsov, about which I later intend to inform the international community," Zw.lt news outlet quotes the politician as saying. Zingeris expressed hope that Russia would not hinder the very report itself, which is already half-done.
According to Russian opposition leader Vladimir Kara-Murza, this is an unprecedented case. "From what I know, this is the first time in history that an official of the Council of Europe cannot enter the territory of a country that is part of the Council of Europe," Kara-Murza said.
The day before, on May 23, the city authorities of Vilnius reported that a public garden named after Boris Nemtsov could appear in the city.
