Polish Foreign Minister: After Russia’s aggression in Kerch strait there is a chance to stop Nord Stream 2

At the press conference with the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Pavlo Klimkin, in Kyiv, Polish Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz called for exerting pressure on countries that support the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project after Russia's aggression against Ukraine in the Kerch Strait.

He noted that the international community’s position is divided. On the one hand, the European Commission, the United States, Poland and other countries believe that Nord Stream 2 should fall under the European Union gas initiative. In this case, this project would not be so beneficial to the Russian company Gazprom.

On the other hand, Germany and number of other countries would like this project to be exclusively economic.

Czaputowicz believes that there is a chance to stop the implementation of this project.

“The latest aggression in the Sea of Azov should show the international community what Russia is capable of and how it can use such projects against other states,” said the head of the Polish Foreign Ministry.

“I hope that now is a very good time to put pressure on countries that want to implement this project. It is necessary to prove that their position is unfounded and dangerous,” he added.

On November 25, Russian border ships attacked and captured two Ukrainian boats and a tug boat in the Kerch Strait. All twenty-four sailors on board were captured. The Kremlin-controlled court of Simferopol arrested Ukrainian sailors accusing them of “illegally crossing the Russian border”.
