Saakashvili says Ukrainian authorities want to deport him to Poland
In an interview with the Georgian TV channel Rustavi 2, former Governor of the Odessa region Mikheil Saakashvili said that the Migration Service of Ukraine has decided to deport him to Poland.
At the same time, Saakashvili stressed that "no matter what happens next, he will continue peaceful struggle for change of power" in Ukraine. He also added that his extradition to Georgia could lead to mass demonstrations in Ukraine.
On July 26th, President Petro Poroshenko terminated Saakashvili’s Ukrainian citizenship. The former governor was in the United States at the time. On August 4th he flew to Poland. On September 10, Saakashvili broke through the Polish-Ukrainian border with the support of activists.
According to Saakashvili, he did not request diplomatic assistance for the flight to Poland. Saakashvili’s Georgian passport was revoked at the end of 2015.
Mikheil Saakashvili has submitted the application to grant him political asylum in Ukraine. However, the State Migration Service rejected Saakashvili's application. The attempt to challenge the decision of the Migration Service in court yielded no result.
