Ukraine begins search for Gazprom’s assets in Europe

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin has instructed the ambassadors in European countries to look for Gazprom’s assets in preparation for the collection of the Russian company’s debt to Naftogaz.

“If Russia does not comply, we will go to the courts – we will go to New York, we will go to London, we will go to all countries. I have already given our ambassadors the instruction to look for Gazprom’s assets throughout Europe. They keep accurate record of everything there,” Klimkin told the press, as reported by Ukrinform.

On February 28, the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce met Naftogaz’s demands in a dispute with Gazprom, ruling that the Russian company must pay the Ukrainian company $4.63 billion for under-supplying gas according to the transit agreement between them. The court recognized that Gazprom had supplied a smaller volume of gas for transit to Europe than envisaged by the contract. However, when taking into account what Naftogaz owes Gazprom for already supplied gas, the balance that Gazprom must pay works out to $2.56 billion.
