UN, OSCE, Council of Europe ignore Russia’s appeal about the ban on the election in Ukraine
According to Tatyana Moskalkova, the human rights commissioner for Russia, the UN, the OSCE and the Council of Europe did not respond to the appeal in connection with the decision of the Ukrainian authorities to prevent Russian citizens who are not diplomats from voting in Russia’s diplomatic institutions in the country, reports TASS.
“I still have not received a reply from anyone. There has been no official reaction,” she said.
Earlier, the OSCE refused to comment on Ukraine’s March 18 decision to block Russians who are not in the country from access to voting in Russia’s presidential election.
“In essence, voting in elections in another country is regulated by bilateral agreements between countries. I do not know any international standards in this area. There are bilateral agreements on the organization of voting between the countries, therefore we are not an organization that can comment on [the statement of the Ukrainian authorities],” said ODIHR press secretary Thomas Rymer.
Moskalkova, meanwhile, promised to repeatedly apply to the UN, OSCE and the Council of Europe, once again expressing outrage that Russian diplomatic missions in Ukraine are blocked by the police and Russian citizens are not allowed to vote in the presidential elections in Russia.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry earlier reported that if Russians who are not diplomats want to vote in the Russian presidential election, they must go to Russia. Diplomatic missions in Ukraine have known since February that the Russian election on March 18 would be closed to civilians.
