US agrees to sell F-35 fighter jets to Poland
The US State Department has approved the sale of 32 new F-35 military aircraft to Poland, reports the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (part of US Defense Department) .
The contract includes the delivery of spare parts. The American side also undertakes to repair, train personnel, and provide the necessary equipment for the training. It also guarantees assistance in solving engineering, logistics and personnel issues related to the maintenance of fighter jets.
The transaction value, which has yet to be approved by Congress, is $6.5 billion.
Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak noted that the Polish side intends to reduce the cost of the contract.
"With all confidence, I declare that the price, on which we will agree during negotiations, will be lower. The final price depends on the progress of negotiations," said the Polish Defense Minister.
