Kremlin: Russia will respond to NATO's reinforcement in Poland

If there is a reinforcement of the US military contingent in Poland, Russia will take all military, political and economic measures in the context of necessary defense, said Frants Klintsevich, first deputy chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security, to RIA Novosti.

Earlier, Polish President Andrzej Duda said that he intends to discuss the matter of enlarging the American military presence in the country with US President Donald Trump during his visit.

Commenting on Duda’s position, Klintsevich noted that an enlargement of the American military presence in Poland would “result in an increase of the real threat to Russia’s safety”.

“In the context of necessary defense, all measures of a military, political, and economic and any other nature which are necessary in such cases will be taken by us,” the politician stressed.

According to Klintsevich, after NATO’s Warsaw summit, the Polish authorities clearly want to present the country as the main stronghold of the West in its opposition of Russia on the European continent.

President Andrzej Duda’s intention to ask for an increase in the American military presence in Poland is “the continuation of the same seditious, provocative line,” he added.

“I don’t know what it is based on – the nationalism of a small nation or the ambition of Poland’s current leadership, which has nothing better than to draw attention to itself, but this is a deliberate exacerbation of the tension in Europe,” Klintsevich stressed.
